Sew Fun

I am trying to keep NOT to busy with my quilting as there is still a mountain of sewing & quilting to be done.

My most recent quilt-along was a Christmas Tree Pants Sew-Along "because not all trees wear skirts".  We always get a real Christmas tree at Christmas time, and the little tree skirt I have just doesn't fit nicely under the tree - especially since the tree "holder" is a large heavy plastic dish-like container with special screws to hold the tree in place.  

Now... I am happy to have a home-made tree skirt pants for our tree this year.

Bring on Christmas!!

Maple Leaf Block

I bought some Fat Eights a few days ago so I could try this sample Maple Leaf Block. I was actually doing a combination of 2 patterns, so inevitably I messed things up & the block isn't exactly what it should be.

I had a 9"block pattern from About.com & a 12" block pattern from Canadian Living, but the Cdn Living magazine kept referring to everything in centimetres. Now I am a true Canadian & LOVE the metric system, but all the quilting guides/rulers are in inches! I was confused & got some measurements incorrect.

So here's my first Maple Leaf block - 12". I have calculated all the measurements into inches, so I think I'll have to buy some more fabric - then I can re-do the 12" block & make it look nice.

Canada Day is only 11 days away... (July 1)!!! I am proud to be Canadian!

Baby Block

This was the first block I made, which is now in my son's possession. He's 9 months old, so he loves to fling it around.

Baby Blankets

Photography was been a hobby for me for the past few years, but I've started another hobby: the craft of quilting this past month, and I have looked at quite a few quilting blogs... all I can say is "Wow!" There are some amazing quilters "out there."

Upon reflecting on the crafts that I have made over the past few years, I decided to start up my own blog to post photos, ideas & thoughts.

Here are a few blankets that I have sewn over the past few years. Most of these have been baby gifts, and I know that there are a few blankets which I didn't take photos of. Fabrics were purchased at Fabricland.

This red bordered duck-cow-cat-dog-donkey blanket was a gift for my niece Maleah last year.

The Noah's Ark blanket is a gift for my niece or nephew who is due this August.

The Alphabet blanket was a gift for my niece Sidney who was born December 2008.

This was the very first blanket that I ever sewed, probably about 10 years ago. I did not add any batting to it, but it's a great memory for me, so it's resting in my own baby blanket collection at home.

This is also an early baby blanket that I sewed & yes, this one has batting inside. It is usually found in my son's playpen.
